Seminar attracts reps from 17 countries in sub-Saharan Africa

USAPEEC hosted 17 countries from sub-Saharan Africa for a three- day seminar recently in Pretoria, South Africa: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Tanzania. USDA was represented by the Foreign Agricultural Service, Food Safety and Inspection Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

APHIS topics consisted of avian influenza, NPIP, Newcastle disease, biosecurity, and capacity building. The sessions were extremely interactive and many countries shared their experiences and knowledge. FSIS spoke about equivalency and audit processes and explained how countries can export to the U.S. FSIS participation in the seminars was a highly successful addition to the seminars that first began in 2017.
