USAPEEC Market Report: Sub-Saharan Africa seeing poultry export increa
May 24, 2021
Poultry export markets in SubSaharan Africa experienced varying results last year, with some markets posting gains and others suffering setbacks, but several in which USAPEEC has marketing activities planned or underway have had solid starts to 2021.
January to December statistics for 2020 showed Ghana, Congo, the DRC, The Gambia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone registering significant gains, while other markets felt the effects of foreign currency shortages, devaluation of foreign currencies and high exchange rates.
Several key markets continued to grow in the first three months of this year, however. Ghana’s exports, for example, rose by 16 percent over the same period last year, to 16,521 metric tons valued at $18 million, with chicken leg quarters accounting for 15,098 metric tons of the total.
