Latest Japanese tariff eliminations in effect

The most recent round of tariff eliminations that Japan is providing U.S. poultry exports went into effect April 1.

The U.S.-Japan Trade Agreement (USJTA), which entered into force on Jan. 1, 2020, resulted in immediate tariff eliminations for some key poultry categories, including elimination of the 3 percent tariff for turkey and the 8 percent tariff for egg albumin products. Other tariffs are being phased out incrementally within 12 years.

U.S. poultry and egg sectors have applauded the implementation of USJTA as it will allow U.S. chicken, turkey, and egg products to receive the same level of market access as imports from other countries that have already implemented trade agreements with Japan.
