HPAI has now touched nearly every state
November 14, 2022
Exporters welcomed the action taken this week by Mexico’s National Department of Health, Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASICA) to limit the restriction on U.S. poultry imports following a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) detection in Mississippi to the county of the finding.
SENASICA agreed to the information the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) sent for the finding, so only product from Lawrence County, Miss., will be banned by Mexico, not all product from the entire state of Mississippi.
As of Thursday, 262 commercial flocks and 352 backyard flocks in the U.S. had HPAI detections, according to the USDA, with 50 million birds in 46 states affected.
