US Broiler Exports at All-time High in Value, Volume

U.S. broiler exports for the first five months of this year set an all-time high in both volume and value according to new trade data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.

China, Taiwan, Congo (Brazzaville), UAE, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Iraq, South Africa, and Singapore showed tremendous gains in broiler exports from the same period a year earlier. Broiler exports for the first five months of this year were 1,602,775 metric tons, up 7.6 percent from the same period of last year, while export value reached $2.081 billion, up 18.8 percent. Cumulative turkey exports for January through May this year were 81,389 metric tons, down 20.5 percent from the same period a year earlier, while export value reached $263.5 million, up 11.3 percent. The decrease in export volume is due largely to HPAI detections in important turkey-producing states such as Minnesota and Indiana. Cumulative exports of table eggs for January through May this year were 35.0 million dozen, down 57.2 percent from the same period of last year, while export value was $54.5 million, down 34.4 percent, due largely to decreased U.S. domestic production of table eggs.
