Barrett Elected New USAPEEC Chairman

MARK BARRETT ELECTED NEW CHAIRMAN 
OF THE BOARD AT USAPEEC


STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - (June 19, 2019) - Mark Barrett, vice president of Minnesota-based Lamex Foods Inc., has been elected chairman of the board of the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) for 2019-2020.

Barrett succeeds outgoing Chairman Ryan Downes, sales and marketing manager at Indiana-based Farbest Foods. His election came June 13 at USAPEEC’s annual meeting in Panama.

As chairman, Barrett will head the USAPEEC Board of Directors, which sets policy and provides direction to USAPEEC, an organization whose mission is to promote and increase exports of U.S. chicken, turkey, duck, and egg products worldwide.

“It was truly an honor to be elected USAPEEC chairman this past week in Panama,” Barrett said. “USAPEEC does an amazing job being the liaison between our member companies/organizations and the many countries to which we export. I look forward to continuing the efforts of past chairmen as well as those of the USAPEEC staff to expand our presence worldwide in the coming year.”

Also elected to the USAPEEC Executive Committee were: Chaz Wilson, head of international sales at Pilgrim’s USA, first vice-chairman; and Paul Sauder, of R.W. Sauder, second vice-chairman. Joel Coleman, vice president, and general manager of international and industrial commodity sales at Butterball, was re-elected secretary-treasurer of the organization.

Rounding out the executive committee are: John Patchoski, director of international sales at Koch Foods, member-at-large; Thomas Isaf, senior vice president at Interra International, member-at-large; Jim Henderson, vice president of sales and marketing at NOCS, associate member-at-large; and Mike McCranie, a soybean farmer from Aberdeen, S.D., and representative of the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, commodity member-at-large. Downes will remain on the executive board as past chairman.

Oleg Kovalev, director of export sales at Mountaire Farms, was named chairman of USAPEEC’s Market Advisory Panel. The chairman of this committee also serves on the board and has a seat on the Executive Committee.

New board members elected are Jennifer Leyden, MetaFoods; Rob Dowell, Case Farms; and Hector Rainey, Intervision Foods. Also, Dr. Jianlin Si of Tyson Foods and Andrew Szymanski of Sanderson Farms assume positions on the board in place of Marc Killebrew of Tyson Foods and Steve Monroe of Sanderson Farms who graciously granted their seats to them to foster the continued growth of the organization.

Board members re-elected to new three-year terms ending in 2022 are Barrett; Mike Briggs, Vilas & Co.; Downes; Gary Clay, Crider’s; Daniel Fripp, Foster Farms; Wilson; Isaf; Kent Puffenbarger, Prestage Foods; Sauder; and Bobby Wilburn, Peco Foods.

Board members whose terms end in 2021 are: Henderson; Coleman; Jen Ehresmann, Jennie-O Turkey Store; Greg Hinton, Rose Acre Farms; Si; Szymanski; Patchoski; Martin Piffaretti, Eastern Quality Foods; Eduardo Gonzales, Mirasco; and Eric Essig, Maple Leaf Farms.

Board members whose terms end in 2020 are: Ashley Anderson, Hakan Foods; Scott Chapman, Lineage Logistics; Tony Burnes, Globex International; Kovalev; Thierry Murad, AJC International; Sujith Niyangoda, e&e Global; Kenny Raney, Simmons; Jay Simpson, Perdue Foods; Greg Tench, Mar-Jac Poultry; and Dow Kirkpatrick, Grove Services.
